What 3D Projection Mapping Is
Technically, 3D mapping is a concept very similar to cinema.
Like in cinema, there is a projector, the screen and the movie.
3D projection mapping, however, is very often confused with a regular big screen projection.
So how is projection mapping different from the cinema ( or from the big screen projection) ?
In cinema, the screen is rectangular and flat, which should not happen
in case of a well designed 3D projection mapping spectacle.
The screen in the form of building or stage (in case of the indoor event)
is an integral part of the spectacle.
Think of watching a movie in the cinema or any regular rectangular flat screen.
If you can take the same movie and watch it somewhere else in a different cinema
or on a different screen then it is not 3D projection mapping per se
because in such case the screen is not the integral part of the spectacle
as it can be changed for another screen.
It is just a big screen projection.
Genuine 3D mapping spectacle is a unique experience and in most cases cannot be repeated
on another building or different stage unless it is modified and adjusted ( mapped )
for the new building or stage because the content of the video is made with the building,
facade ( like windows, columns, ornaments ) or stage elements which are employed
as actors or props in the story told by the movie.
